Politics - Raja Krishnamoorthi has introduced legislation proposing to double the annual intake of foreign workers on H-1B visas, a short-term work permit that has been a gateway for Indians to work, live and, eventually, seek citizenship of this country. The bill introduced on July 14, by the Democratic Congressman, seeks to boost the annual H-1B visas from 65,000 to 130,000. The US runs the H-1B visa program to make up for the shortage of specialty workers, although critics have argued that the shortage is highly exaggerated and that the program is being used by American companies to use less expensive foreign workers brought here by IT services companies.

Politics - Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal has apologized for calling Israel a “racist” state. Jayapal is the Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and is known for her anti-Israel positions in an official statement on July 16 clarified that she does not believe the idea of Israel as a nation is racist “Words do matter,” said Jayapal in the statement adding “and so it is important that I clarify my statement. I do not believe the idea of Israel as a nation is racist.” Jayapal posted her statement on Twitter and said that she was attempting to “defuse a tense situation” and offered her “apologies to those who I have hurt with my words.”

  Today World News - On July 12, Google commemorated the world record achievement of a restaurant in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, for serving the highest number of pani puri flavors. The restaurant, Indori Zayka, in collaboration with Dainik Bhaskar, achieved this feat on July 12, 2015, under the guidance of Masterchef Neha Shah. In celebration of this milestone, Google created a vibrant and interactive game Doodle. In a statement, Google said, “Play today’s interactive game Doodle and help a street vendor team fill orders for pani puri.” Players are invited to select the puris that match each customer’s flavor and quantity preferences in order to keep them satisfied. The tech giant added, “Let’s get to serving!”
